With the development of the embedded system and wide application of wireless communication, agent terminal-based personal navigation system research has already become the focus of GIS and ITS research.Personal pocket navigation system is the combination of GIS, ITS and new developing embedded hardware, which is a kind of extension of original GIS and ITS areas. Personal pocket navigation system is consisted of navigation, localization, map query and spacial data management and it is an integrated software solution. The solution is widely used because the system can be assembled or cut by the need. But there are many problems in such system: Most of the original systems take no use of navigating geographic database which take use of file system to store data simply, so that data can not be updated in time and that there is no advantage of storing and retrieving data. Furthermore, it becomes the bottleneck of the development of such system; Most of the original systems' data is updated by fixed terminal usually without making full use of wireless network, so that data can not be updated all the time all over the world; Most of the original systems don't communicate with each other, so that every system become an isolated island and is not familiar with others necessary information which are nearby. This research is spread with above problems and resolved each one step by step. The system made a big breakthrough on integrated qualities and system functions.This research mainly involves the technology of mobile calculation, embedded software development, computer graphics, wireless network, computer algorithm and the technology of embedded GIS, Navigating geographic database and the GPS.First, it analyzes the researching and developing situation of embedded GIS and accounts for the wide foreground of personal pocket navigation system. And then it presents basic knowledge about navigating geographic database, embedded system, embedded GIS, GPS, wireless network communication. Later, basing on the above knowledge, it makes the logical design and the modal design for the system. It also brought forward Personal Navigation System 1.0 (PNS 10), which is a really executable solution for the personal pocket navigation system. This research is majored in both the analysis and design of navigating geographic database and the design and implementation of functional modals. Guiding by the basic knowledge and design, the system is implemented by C# language using the Visual Studio.NET 2005 integrated development environment. After tests, it is believed that the...
