Airfield Lighting Navaid is a necessary establishment in airfield for airplane sliding and landing. With the modernization management of airport, it is required that Airfield Lighting Navaid can detect and monitor the state of lights. A detecting and monitoring system on Airfield Lighting Navaid is also going to be a necessary establishment.This paper first introduces the status quo of the detecting and monitoring system at home and abroad. It analyzes its structure, technique theory, strongpoint, shortcoming and practicability. Then introduces a new type low cost system the author takes part in researching and developing. This new type system applies the infrared communication for the first time to transmit the detecting data of the detecting and monitoring system. It constructs an infrared communication circle to transfer the detecting data and breaks through the fallibility of the traditional data transmission. At last, as the system based on the infrared communication is a new system, there exists some problems in actual detecting and running. Focus on problems the paper gives some resolutions.This paper focuses on the introduction and optimization of the detecting and monitoring system based on the infrared communication. The optimization is mainly embodied in the power supply, whose input is the secondary coil of the isolation transformer, and the reliability of infrared communication. The design of the power supply isolation is one of the difficulties in the system, which is analyzed in the paper. After tested and detected in lots of experiments, the former designed power supply still has some special problems when applied in Shantou airfield. The paper redesigns a new reliability power supply through analyzing lots of detecting data and methods. As the reliability of infrared communication determines the reliability of the whole detecting and monitoring system directly, the paper researches on how to improve its reliability.
