Power supply, referred as the heart of communications equipment, plays an incomparable role in the signal station. In the category of communication power supply, Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) has supplanted the linear and phase controlled supply, with the advantage of power conversion, high efficiency, wide steady voltage, large ratio of power-volume plus light weight. SMPS, which is honored as "high efficient and low power" supply, represents booming mainstream of signal power supply.This paper, firstly, puts forward its power supply method and developmental tendency, presents the research background at home and abroad. Then, we analyzed the request to SMPS in detail and its operation mode, including single-supply single-bus, single-supply two-bus and dual-supply two-bus. Apart from these, the dual-supply two-bus mode is adopted by YinNan power station. The system was designed according to the requirements. Especially the function and parameter numeration is discussed in detail, including input and output filtering, rectifier, power factor transformation conversion and the DC circuit, etc. Moreover, in addition to the structure of the supply itself, its drive circuit and protection are the key factors for a system to achieve a safe and reliable operation, which should be pay special attention to design. At the same time, in order to master the operating parameters and the state immediately, it is necessary to relay on the power control system for a real-time monitoring to get a timely respond. In the end, this article does a further analysis to the principles of the Switch Mode Power Supply, compared the manual and the automatic switch control and got their respective control diagram.Aim of this paper is to improve the reliability of the Switch Mode Power Supply, based on the YinNan power station - a single power supply can afford all loads. The mode makes the two sets of the power equipment inter-protect and inter-reserve, and ensure the DC-switch equipment can achieve the condition -a set of the power supply afford all loads, that is to say, the system is in normal operation, when any of the intelligent switching power supply equipment are maintained, mangled or replaced and the batteries need to take the load for a long time. At the same time, the two sets of power equipment inter-protect so that the utilization rate, the security and reliability is improved. In the end, it avoids the interruption of the communication caused by the power failures or maintenance. In conclusion, this paper designed several experimentations to analysis the operation of the system, and verified the feasibility through the result.
