OLED, which has the merits such as active luminescence, light weight, thin thickness, high brightness, fast response, high definition, low voltage, high efficiency and so on, is a potential substitute for LCD. Therefore, the OLED display system has a potentially wide application prospect.Because of the difficulties of producing large-scale OLED, high costs of production and complicated driving circuits, OLED needs to be optimized. In this paper, the principles of driving circuits, image displays and control systems are studied based on a P7404OLED (96×RGB×64 pixel). Furthermore, a display system based on a single chip processor is designed. In this system, the driving circuit controlled by the single chip processor is used to transmit the display data and provide the control command. Good performances for displaying both static images and video images are observed on OLED.The main contributions of the paper are listed as follows:1. An appropriate driving mode is designed to optimize the driving circuit. And a method constructing a display system based on the single chip processor is proposed. The driving circuits and control circuits of OLED display system are designed.2. Softwares for image processing in PC and display controlling in embedded system are designed. The image is processed and then displayed on OLED by using a single chip processor. The experiments displaying static characters and color images are carried out, which verify the design of displaying system and image processing.3. According to the characteristic that the images can be displayed on the specific area of OLED by controlling driving chip, the program for displaying simple animations and dynamic characters are designed in the limited memory of the single chip processor. The corresponding experiments are performed in this system, and good results are obtained.4. 4 low cost OLEDs (P7403OLED) are put together to display 192×128 pixel images in this system for the high cost of large-scale OLED and low resolution of small-scale OLED.
