At the beginning, the paper introduce important role of the communication between the PSTN networks and the IP networks in the process of Next Generation Networks, and take out the model of the trunk server basing on the disadvantages of the existing solutions. Firstly, the trunk server can act as the Signaling Gateway between the PSTN networks and the IP networks to translate the SS7/PRI/No.l signaling to the SIP/H.323 protocol or reverse direction. Secondly, the server can act as the Signaling Translation Server between SIP and H.323 protocol. Thirdly, the server can also be used as the Media Gateway to implementation of the converting PCM into RTP packets. At last, the server can act as the MCU Conference Server to manage multipoint conferences and mix voice.The second part of the paper is divided into two paragraphs, which expatiate on the system structures of the trunk server and MCU entity, and take out the basic principles and implementation solutions of the server, and describe the MCU integration solutions in the trunk server.In the third part the paper describes the design solutions and the implementation mode of driver software of the trunk server detailedly. The driver software is mainly formed from two parts: receiving & tranmitting signaling in El lines and media transformation. In this part the paper introduce some important processing flows.
