The Virtual Reality is one kind of technology that produces a highly vivid simulation environment by using computer to make user immerse into the virtual environment by some kinds of sensor interfaces and accomplish interaction between user and environment.Virtual Environment is the representation space of the application of VR, also is a visualization platform that is integrated various technologies. Human interact with virtual world through virtual environment. Hence, how to construct a 3D, highly reality and good interaction virtual environment is an important task for the application of VR technology.Illumination model and texture mapping technique is most important technique in realistic graph technology. This paper introduces simple illumination model, overall illumination model, light track algorithm and radiation method. Texture mapping technique is used to generate texture details on objects. According to the regions where the texture is defined, texture is generally classified as two-dimensional texture and three-dimensional texture. Two-dimensional texture mappings are summarized in this paper including Catmull algorithm and Blinn algorithm, two-step texture mapping, environment mapping and bump mapping.OpenGL is also introduced in this paper and some realization examples of lighting and texture mapping based on OpenGL are presented in some chapters. It proposed a design frame of modules for system of virtual ocean environment based on OpenGL and some pertinent algorithms. It proposed wave simulation based on wave spectrums and ship's wakes simulation based on particle system and image synthesis.
