With the emerging of grid computing technology, bioinformatics grid has become a hot research area. Computing bioinformatics grid aims to offer super computing power to bioinformatics. By integrating the various resources in internet, a virtual computer with super computing power is formed to solve the bioinformatics problems that a single machine can't do.We study the actual case of the sequence assembly application in bioinformatics and analyze mygrid in UK, Euro-Biogrid in Europe, NCBiogrid in US and some bioinformatics girds in Asia pacific area. In this paper we present a computing bioinformatics grid architecture based on analyzing and comparing the architecture and components of Globus Toolkit 3.2 and Unicore. We also analyzed the key parts of the architecture such as the resource description,resource management,bioinformatics job description and scheduler of the job.According to the computing bioinformatics grid architecture we implement a computing bioinformatics grid prototype with some grid services and a client application, using current grid technology. We describe the details of the prototype and deploy the serial phrap application into the environment. At last we analyze the performance of the phrap under the grid prototype. It shows the architecture is reasonable and feasible.
