True 3D Volumetric Display Technique is a completely new technique. Different from computer 2D display, with the speciality of this new computer display system, images having true physical depth cues are generated within a region of 3D space, thus revolutionary progress will be made for science analysis and visualization. This technique will be widely used in national defence, biomedicine engineering, and so on. A variety of methods are used, including static-volume technique and swept-volume technique. The rotational motion swept-volume technique is mainly discussed in this dissertation.The dissertation focuses on analysing and studying the development of rotational motion swept-volume technique, imaging principle, key technologies of display unit and graphics engine, and simulation of the work principles. Firstly, the imaging principle of swept-volume technique is analysed. Voxel attributes, voxel density and the way to keep the invariableness of voxel density are studied, and the method of parallel data transmission link is discussed. Then, the display unit and graphics engine of rotational motion swept-volume technique are particularly studied, and the modular method is presented. To the display unit, the display volume, projection unit, and input device are studied and analysed. To the graphics engine, the working principle is studied, including conversion of coordinate systems, processing of the image data, the process of conversion matrix, voxel ordering, and some simple methods of graphics engine hardware. Finally, the simulation is implemented to validate the correctness of theory. The method for medical model reading, and simulation of the swept-volume display process has been carried out.The dissertation solves the key problems of rotational motion swept-volume technique in true 3D volumetric display. The method of modular design, the theory and the simulation of display unit and graphics engine have made good preparation for engineering implementation in the future.
