True 3D volumetric display technique is a completely new research trend in computer stereo vision technique. By displaying the 3D image in 3D monitor directly, the characteristics of the image space are multi-angle, all-round view and can be observed by many persons at the same time and interact with persons directly. There are many kinds of display techniques in true 3D volumetric display technique, the most basic and nuclear technique is translational motion of swept-volume technique. This dissertation researches on translational motion of swept-volume technique in true 3D volumetric display in detail.Firstly, this paper explains the advantages and disadvantages of translational motion of swept-volume technique and studies the development history of it.Then the imaging theory of translational motion of swept-volume technique is studied, and a model used to explain the imaging process. Based on this, the composing of translational motion of swept-volume system is analyzed. It is mainly composed of display unit and graphics engine. This dissertation emphasizes on the creation of image space, the author present a display system in which screen moves with a sinusoidal velocity profile to create image space. This paper uses linear approximation to make the system display homogeneous graphic and analyzes worst-case positional error due to linear approximation.In order that display 3D image in display unit, primitive graphics data must be transformed to a series of voxel descriptors by graphics engine. The voxel descriptors must match the geometrical characteristics of the temporal nature of translational motion of swept-volume system. This paper studies the processing of the graphics data by the graphics engine, coordinate transforming and voxel ordering are applied in the course to deal with the graphics data.At last the slices of pelvis model are used to simulate the imaging process of translational motion of swept-volume technique in 2D screen. Professional software is used to get the pelvis model and transforms it into OpenGL programs. Based on this, then slices the model, and make the slices translate by techniques of timer and double buffers.
