In the traditional central monitoring system, the load of central server increases linearly with the enlarging of system, which will have negative influence on the system performance. Therefore, this will result in confliction between the monitoring system in distributed environments and the increasing number of monitoring stations. With the development of the spot control network technology, the information network integration technology and the distributional real-time technology, the distributed real-time monitoring system will become the development trend of the future monitoring system. The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) is a kind of specification of architecture for middleware technology which was initiated by the object management group (OMG) in 1995. This specification provides interopreability among clients and servers distributed over a heterogeneous environment. It may shield the differences of the network communication, the operating platform, the programming language and so on, and transparently provide the necessary security. The Real-time CORBA is the specification which comes from CORBA2.0. Since the original CORBA can't provide the sufficient support for the real-time applications, the Real-time CORBA improves the real-time ability, strengthens remarkablely the support for the real-time applications.Facing the increments of the application system scales and the complex network architecture, the level of the monitoring system must be enhanced further more. Because of the heavier burden and more complicated applications on network than ever, Brower/Server, the traditional monitoring pattern, can no longer satisfied with the requirement of the current monitoring management. In this paper, we first introduce current commonly used CORBA, COM/DCOM, Java/RMI, Web Services technologies in distributed processing system. Then, the realization principle, development platform, maturity, and suitable application conditions of CORBA are analyed and compared. Especially, we discuss the real-time CORBA system structure, the implementation frame and real-time CORBA implementation software TAO in...
