With the application of digital medical imaging equipments in hospital in a wide range, the amount of medical images increases dramatically, it become more and more urgent to store, manage, and share medical images as well as relevant data among different medical departments become more and more urgent. In such condition, it is necessary to construct Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to deal with the acquirement, display, transfer and management of digital medical images. PACS can save the cost of using traditional films for diagnosis, as well as improve the precision of medical imaging based diagnosis. So the design and realization of PACS has become the competitive choice in hospital information systems. PACS becomes more and more advanced in western centuries, but in our country, things are different, we just begin to do research in this field, it is a long way for us to reach the international level.Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) is the international accepted standard of medical digital imaging transfer area that is widely conformed by PACS. DICOM is the key of the succession of PACS.The author has worked hard on how to design information archiving and management system for medical images in PACS, and implemented a medical image database system.
