Research and development of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is one of the effective solutions to the problem of transportation in China. In this paper, we mainly concern in the vehicle that is one of important components in ITS. The realization of multifunctional automatic vehicle position and navigation system based on embedded system is discussed.Automatic vehicle system are made up of several moduls, those moduls are Vector electronical Map module, Position module, Communication module, Multimedia player module and Video signal switch module. In this system, we can realize the position and navigation of vehicle in graphics mode, and demand geographical information, make use of wireless communication, enjoy the multimedia player and so on. This development platform system is designed through EP9315 that is based on ARM920T core. This platform employs Windows CE.net as operation system, and applys the technology of embedded program-Embedded Visual C++. A vector electronical Map system is setup. We can display Vector Map ,zoom and roam the map in that system, further more, simple management of map layers and demand information are also realized,further more, we put forward borderline-detection arithmetic to improve speed of display when we roam the map . In position module, collecting and processing of GPS data are finished. In SMS mode, we can realize sending position data through SIM100-E GSM/GPRS module. After finishing Multimedia player function, I bring forward the scheme in control of video signal switch through GPIO pins in EP9315. Several progresses are made in the development of software and hardware in the Video signal switch module.At present, functions of module in multifunctional automatic vehicle position and navigation system are primary realized mostly. At the same time, I accept that the integration of all function modules is also need to be improved and perfected.
