A method for building applications that are flexible and able to accommodate the ever-changing demands of users in a cost-efficient and timely manner is provided by component based development. In this thesis, the design of a local data mining platform using component-based approach is presented. Based on it, the architecture of a distributed data mining system is given. Complying with our data object interface and mining model interface, new mining algorithms can be easily integrated to our system. Using component-oriented technology can reduce workload efficiently, also give openness and easy-maintenance to the system.In the beginning, an introduction of the conception and method of data mining is given in the thesis. And then the development of datamining system software and some important technologies that are bound up with datamining system are briefly introduced and analyzed. The characteristics of several modern data mining systems are analyzed to make clear the improvement direction of the system. After that component is analyzed. The author put emphasis on the architecture design, function design, component design and the implementation technologies of the system. In the end the architecture of the distributed data mining system is presented.J2EE interface is considered during the system design. The System is madeup of four Server: DataServer, DataMiningServer, ComponentServer and MetaDataServer. Rose tool is used to make the object-oriented visible modeling of UML. Its developing procedure follows RUP.
