Both UWB technology and Ad Hoc network are the current hotspots in the academe of wireless communication. The inherent advantages of UWB technology can notably improve the performance of Ad Hoc network and extend its application field. Applying UWB to Ad Hoc network can better utilize the respective advantages and realize the advantages complementation. So it has comprehensive application prospects. The design of MAC protocol is one of the key technologies in the UWB Ad Hoc network, which directly affects on the network performance such as the access fairness, throughput, delay and the packets losing rate etc. Ultra-wide band Ad Hoc network has its own characteristics, which make the design of MAC protocol face a series of challenging technical issues. This dissertation closely centres on Ultra-wideband Ad Hoc network. It first introduced the architecture, the key technology to resolve and the application prospects of UWB Ad Hoc network. And then it takes thorough research and analysis on the returns of the existing Ultra-wideband Ad Hoc network MAC protocols, especially IEEE802.15.3 MAC protocol. According to the shortage that CSMA/CA protocol in 802.15.3 MAC is difficult to realize in UWB technology, we propose an improved scheme, in which a S-ALOHA contention access mechanism based on CDMA replace the original CSMA/CA mechanism. Simulation is performed with the NS2 network simulator and simulation results shows that the improved protocol can gain better throughput and delay performance. Finally it summarizes the contribution of the research and put forward some prospects for the future work.
