With the rapid development of modern information technology, the information process of all social departments is becoming ever faster. With the ever-expanding quantity of social information, the traditional database failed to serve the increasing business need of both government departments and enterprises. In this context, the technology of distributed database, parallel database and great capacity database has come into being one after the other. In the meantime, the problem of monitoring and managing software and hardware system has become more and more important. Thus how to monitor and control the great capacity database has become the vital task for our current research.This paper chooses a certain Large-Scale Transaction Processing System as research platform. Based on the main problems existing in the processes of monitoring and controlling of the great capacity database, we design and finally accomplish the implementation of the monitoring and management system of great capacity database, including system architecture, run model, module design and key technology. The main tasks of this paper are as follows:Concerning system architecture, based on the analysis of the features of Large-Scale Transaction Processing System and the level-based monitoring and management module, we design a monitoring and management system of great capacity database which adopted 3-tier B/S architecture and design system architecture and run module. The specific functions and interrelations of each module in monitoring and management system are also discussed in detail in this paper.Concerning key technology, we discuss the key technologies based on the monitoring and management system. This includes the providing and accomplishment of the device for adopting CORBA server as the way for system information monitoring; the design and accomplishment of the device for system allocation based on the combination of information storage database and system information monitoring which can solve the problem of the collection and analysis for system statistical information; and the providing and accomplishment of system pre-warning mechanism based on the rule reasoning and sign reasoning.Concerning system accomplishment, based on the research mentioned above, we design and finally accomplish the monitoring and management system of great capacity database grounds on J2EE and CORBA. Its functions include system allocating management for great capacity database system, monitoring database functioning condition, monitoring the load condition of application server and system-served object. Moreover, it can also display statistical information and provide the function of system pre-warning. The testing result indicates that this system has successfully solved the main problems existing in the monitoring and management process of great capacity database.
