Lin Yutang, one of the key members of Chinese modern literary circle, also one of the representatives of the liberalism literature in 1930', was a well-known and prestigious journal editor in the era of"magazine year". Although his editorial career lasted only four years, a series of magazine which he launched made a crucial and controversial influence on the society. Lin Yutang was a main founder of"the Analects party magazine", which attracted quite a large number of readers. As for the guideline of magazine editing, he advocated his contemporary to learn from west so as to form their own feature. In his practice of editing, Lin Yutang put forward many beneficial standpoints, which even now still have much enlightenment on how to run a magazine well. Hence its important research significance.This paper falls into four parts.Introduction comes first which mainly discusses the status of Lin Yutang in the history of periodical development who was a controversial, unique and influential magazine editor.The first part focuses on Lin Yutang's editing achievement. In the period between October of 1932 and 1934, Lin Yutang partaked in launching and editing Analects which was the first magazine initiating humor style in China. From the beginning of its issuing, it made an extensive social influence. In 1934, Lin Yutang established the semimonthly Ren Jian Shi which characterized adopting essays and the prose style. In the semimonthly Yu Zhou Feng which was also his initiative in 1935, He put forward to study Western magazine, and initated"the magazine literary style". He suggested that a magazine should have its own feature. In the March of 1936, Lin Yutang participated in the editing plan of the magazine Yi jing and Xi Feng in which he further elaborate his editing thoughts.The second part concentrates on the following facets: First, Lin Yutang advanced the slogan that"The reading should enrich the mind, and the magazine should contain...
