Due to the advantages of high capacity, interference resistance, soft handover, convenience of access, wide code-division multiple-access(WCDMA) has become main standard of the third generation mobile communication system. How to keep QoS s services in error-prone wireless channel is challenging for 3rd generation mobile communication systems. This paper will discuss the capacity performance and radio resource management algorithm of WCDMA.The cell capacity of WCDMA systems is limited, admitting more users than the capacity into system will make the already admitted users suffer a loss of QoS. Efficient call admission control mechanisms must be adopted by the system to protect the QoS of the heterogeneous traffics and at the same time accommodate more users. The paper first will introduce the WCDMA systems, and then will discuss the capacity performance of the multi-service WCDMA cellular systems, then will discuss some important factors affecting the WCDMA cell capacity, we will get the capacity performance of uplink and downlink. As a result, the interference factor of adjacent cells and the orthogonal factor are important parameters to influence the cell capacity, the capacity of WCDMA system will be limited in uplink. The simulation and performance analysis of interference oriented CAC schemes are given out in the paper, the CAC schemes are proposed to decrease system blocking probability ,outage probability and grade of service for better system performance compared with fixed CAC schemes, through setting different interference thresholds for new calls and handoff calls.
