With the rapid development of mobile communication, more and more people are requiring for services via the limited radio resource, while Radio Resource Management (RRM) is an important way for settling the problem. Call admission control (CAC) is one of the most important issues for radio resource management of mobile communication system, which makes the decision of whether or not to accept the arriving (new or handoff) calls based on the predefined criteria considering the users' QoS as well as the utilization of network resources. This thesis focuses on the studying of CAC schemes in cellular wireless network. To begins with, we have a brief introduction of different sorts of CAC algorithms according to the criterions that the CAC based on. Secondly, we analyze the CAC strategies in CDMA system, and then emphasis on the analysis of CAC algorithms with reserving channels by modeling and simulating. We also study the CAC algorithm based on both channel reserving and queuing schemes by two-dimension Markov analysis. Furthermore, since the new traffic flows in the cellular system have some new characteristics that beyond the Poisson arrival model, we study the new model for the new traffic flows. In this thesis, we choose the Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP) as the arrival traffic. A mathematical analysis and simulating of channel reserving CAC scheme based on the MMPP arrival model is performed. Results indicate that MMPP is much more accurate than Poisson arrival in terms of system capability parameters.
