The Research For Embedded System Browser Based On Wireless Application Protocol

The embedded system, based on computer technology, which can be modified in both hardware and software, is used to meet the demands of function, reliability, low cost, solidity, and energy cost of an application system. It is the combination of advanced computer technology, semi-conductor and electronic technology. With the development of information technology, the embedded system has developed rapidly. It is widely used in many fields such as electronic, industry, aviation and so on.Since 1990s, the mobile communication technology and Internet technology have got rapid development. As a result, people's life has greatly changed. There were 1.5 billion people using mobile phones in 2004, and 686 million people using Internet in 2003. The appearance of embedded system, the combination of the two kinds of technology, makes it possible for all the people to break through the restriction of time and location to visit kinds of internet resources freely. However, compared with the traditional computer network, the embedded system is not so good, especially in the ability of dada transportation and processing. We should say there are still many difficulties in mobile wireless connection. WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol, which can accommodate with the low-bandwidth constraints of a wireless-handheld network and the low speed constraints of handheld devices. After WAP 1.0 was presented by WAP FORUM in 1998, the wireless internet developed rapidly day by day. WAP browser makes the embedded device combined with internet, and stands for the direction of the development embedded system.The embedded system requires the designer designing different browsers for different hardware platforms or operating systems. This paper firstly gives a general instruction of the embedded system's, basic concept, development history, components, main fruits of relative studies, and its developing trend. Secondly, it put the emphasis on the introduction of the theories and technology of embedded system. , including the background of the WAP protocol, the Protocol Stack, and the application models. And then, it intensively illustrated the general architecture and the realization of WAP browser. The paper also gave us a detailed description of a testing result of a WAP browser. The final part concentrates on the future direction of WAP and embedded system.
