Diversity is the most obvious characteristic of embedded system. Equipment manufacturers have so many different requirements on the selection of chips, the definition of systematic function, the property of manifesting instrument and the limit of power consumption that no embedded browser can satisfy all demands of embedded system. Therefore it should be impractical to develop a product that should be adapted to the general demand for either embedded OS or embedded browser markets.So far there has not been accurate definition of embedded browser. But we can give a rough definition of it from the two perspectives of its function and its use. Firstly, it should be a internet information browser which can support HTTP or WAP or other transport protocols and which can also support HTML, text or expand XML, WML and other marked-up languages as well as perform the task of browsing the web page. Secondly, this browser must be fit to exist and run and completely fulfils the function provided by communication transport protocols. In addition, this browser must be able to make corresponding reduction and revision according to the various demands for embedded equipment and meet the user's demands on obtaining such information as text, image, sounds, and video and so on.The first part of this paper makes a brief introduction to the technology that embedded browser involves and the developing platform of software and hardware, In order to help readers have knowledge of the background information of this study. The second part is this paper focuses on expounding the general plan for designing browser and the process of how this plan realized. Finally this paper deals with the explanation of the plan drawn up for testing browser.This paper tries to make readers understand the design conception of the software of the whole program and the algorithm of some important processes. I hope this paper could be helpful to those technicians concerned.
