The management of farmland information as an important part of agricultural informatization needs advanced scientific technologies. The rapid development of communication technology, computer science and network technology provides the platform and supports for the progress of farmland information management.Recently, the ways and instruments to acquire the farmland information have been greatly developed. And the technology of WebGIS provides a new mode for farmland information management. Howerver, as a whole, many problems still exist, such as the acquirements of farmland information are relatively less advanced with low efficient. In addition, lacking of study on combining the farmland information with WebGIS technology was still a shortcoming.Based on the problems of farmland information collection and management system (FICMS) in precision farming, the contribution of this work was to present to bind the GSM wireless communication with the WebGIS technology in FICMS. It was intent to provide new ways for collecting and managing farmland information. In this system, the merits of traditional methods in acquiring information were involved. Subsequently, the communication technology was introduced to avoid building the large structure, and it cut down the total cost. Finally, the system integrated the WebGIS technology with the farmland information collection, which made the farmland information management be available on the internet.Main research contents and results are:(1) Investigated the actual situation and existing problems of the farmland information collection and WebGIS application at home and abroad, and probed to the objective and significance of research and development of the FICMS. Finally, the main task of this dissertation was to approach an online WebGIS of farmland information (Temperature, pH, Water-Content of soil, Electronic Conductivity etc.) collection and management based on GSM wireless communication.(2) Comparing the characteristics of technologies in farmland information collection, the GSM wireless communication was adopted to acquire the information from farmland. The data from land were sent and received in the form of short message, and finally these messages were put into the database in Web Server for further use.(3) Based on the principles and application of GPS and WebGIS technology, and according to their confirmation mode, a WebGIS platform with the ASP.NET and ArcIMS technology was designed. ASP.NET was used for developing and the ArcIMS provided map services. In addition, the system was developed with C# language and MS Access database.(4) Programming with ArcXML and ASP.NET, the farmland information management system of WebGIS was developed. And the function modules of user register, login, spatial query and analysis, data query and statistic charts were realized, and the interface of the system was also described. Furthermore, the dynamic update, query and display of database were reached in this work.(5) Several critical technologies in developing this system were probed, such as ArcXML technique and dynamic chart making. With these technologies, serval difficult problems in our development were got solved.
