The library automation is the general name of comprehensive means that utilize themodern information technology to improve the working efficiency and service level of thelibrary, and it is a foundation in building the digital library. The construction of the digitallibrary will again promote greatly the developments of the library automation. A hugeprogress in our library automation construction has been made in the recent years. At the sametime, this impelled the different and multi-functional researches on the library automationsystems. In the recent years, with the rapid development of the computer science, communicationtechnology and network, many library automation systems can not meet the needs of thedocument information service in the network environment. The efficiency and service levelsneed to be improved. Especially in the current information society today, informationcommon sharing and building is the main trend. Thus, the domestic and foreign libraryautomation system manufacturers have done much in further updating and renewing theirsystems in many aspects. For example many expansions have been made in the libraryautomation systems structure, network service and gate integration etc. Thereby the networkfunctions of the library automation systems have been greatly improved. The former libraryautomation systems unable catching the needs of the current technical background causes thehigh tide of the library automation system replacement. This thesis attempts to give a comparison and evaluation on the domestic and foreignleading systems which are widely used in our library automation management on the basis ofthe analysis on our usage feature of the library automation system in our country. It is alsohoped that the discussions will provide some basic selection guides for those libraries thatexpect to introduce or replace their library automation system.
