Researchers from academic institutes and enterprises have come to focus more onthe study of software system that supports the business process management, whileoperation management increasingly takes care of business process. This thesis, firstly,introduces the main theories, technologies and methodologies which are related tobusiness process management and have just been produced in recent years. Secondly,the information technology and software tools that support business processmanagement were studied. Finally, an architecture which supports business processmanagement, named Business Process Management Platform-BPMP, was designedon which an application system was developed.First, main theories, technology and methodology in business process managementof last years were introduced and some problems remained in this field wasanalyzed.Second, an architecture that satisfys the requirements of business processmanagement was designed, which based on analyzing characteristics of businessprocesses and functions of many popular software tools in the business processmanagement. In addition, the architecture adopted certain advanced informationtechnology so that the architecture can be easily implemented.Third, the core component – workflow management system called FlowPro-wasstudied, based on which a stereotype system was developed. Then the others parts ofthe architecture were developed using a commercial workflow developing platform,Cordys BCP. And there are details on how to implement those parts in the thesis.Last, an application system was developed based on BPMP, which support thebusiness operations of the production system in the Industrial EngineeringDepartment of Tsinghua University. And the methodology, ARIS, was adopted todrive the whole development process.Studies show that the architecture designed in the thesis effectively support businessprocess management in all stages, enable rapid development and deployment ofapplication systems which is distributed, extendible and efficiently integrated ITlegacy systems.
