Research And Realization On RF5-Based Audio And Video Codec System

DSP plays a more and more important role in the field of multimedia application, in which the core codec algorithm based on DSP is the key point. Using TI's Reference Framework 5 (RF5) during the development could make the main codes reusable and reduce the time consumption remarkably. Meanwhile, the classification in the software of RF5 is tally with the requirement of teamwork. The encapsulation of core algorithm in the software of RF5 not only well fits the demand of copyright protection, but also in favor of the high quality algorithm to be reused. This paper firstly illustrates the basic of RF5, then analyses the common steps in the development, and introduces a simple schedule. Finally, an MPEG-4 video codec system and a G.723.1 audio codec system are realized on the TDS642EVM board based on RF5. The whole tasks include the hardware design and configuration as well as the software optimization. The system performance could fit the needs of any commercial product.
