With the coming of age 3G, the bandwidth of wireless network will grow with a high speed, which brings great opportunities to mobile applications. Mobile videophone, providing a real-time two-way audio and video communication, is regarded as the symbol business of the 3G service. Consequently, it has attracted the operators' great interest, as well as the end users. In order to meet the demand of the 3G, video codec used in the mobile videophone applications has become the key technology. The purpose of this topic is to design video codec software required by 3G commercial applications. In this paper, the 3G video codec software is completely designed and optimized, with the ZSP500 processor as the develop platform and The MPEG-4 video compression standard as the algorithmic standard. This paper is divided into six chapters, as follows:Chapter 1: this chapter introduces the 3G videophone and video compression technology-related information, and additional expounds on this subject and significance of the topic.Chapter 2: in this chapter, the codec software design for videophone is accomplished, using the MPEG-4 standard, including design, functional module division, the functional module interface design and program flow design.Chapter 3: in this chapter, a series of fault-tolerant strategies are designed and implemented to make the quality of the video communication as high as possible.Chapter 4: this chapter specifies the developing platform of the codec software—ZSP500. Besides, the C optimization is done in this part.Chapter 5: this chapter implements the assembly optimizationChapter 6: the summarization and prospects for the topic are raised in this chapter.
