The Research And Implementation On The EPG System Of Digital TV

Digital TV has become one of the most important research fields in all theinternational high technology research fields today because of its huge potentialeconomic profit. The electronic program guide (EPG), as a important part of DTVsystem, can provide user friendly user interface and be convenient for the user toacquire the program information they want.The main task of this paper is the research and realization of the EPG system ondigital TV. This paper investigates the design of editing program of serviceinformation (SI), the building of SI database and the managing module, the creatingof SI table, the way to design the EPG displaying interface and man-machine interface,the method to debug the software of EPG system.The EPG system is composite of head-end system and tail-end system .Thehead-end system uses the SI database (Access relational database) as the core anddesigns the management module of database and the editing module of SI by VB.NET.It also defines the SI table accord with the DVB-C standard and finally packs andtransfers the table such as NIT, EIT, SDT or BAT etc. In tail-end system, the SI data isdecoded and demultiplexed by Set Top Box (STB) and converted to the descriptor andSI table. At last, SI tables display on EPG interface by the On Screen Display (OSD)interface function library.This paper introduces the Digital TV specification of Chinese SI in detail, andalso introduces MPEG-2 standard and the structure of transport stream. In addition,this paper introduces the STB and the real-time embedded system OS20, explains theOSD function library in detail and raises a resolve method of EPG display interfacebeyond this. It also discusses the technology of dealing with the font library .Through debugging and testing, the EPG system is proved to be applicable.
