With the development of multimedia and Internet technology, there are more and more digital products for our entertainment and they can easily be copied and delivered on Internet without any losses in quality. So more and more pirates strongly hurt the producer and author's interests. It calls for an effective method to protect the digital products. Digital watermarking is such an effective method and attracts many researchers, especially digital video watermarking in recent years. There have been techniques for current popular video compression. Images and video watermarking are introduced in the paper, including their development and general method to research. It also covered with wavelet for it's role in JPEG2000 and MPEG-4 and it's application in watermarking with its multiresolution property. Then a DWT-based digital video watermarking scheme is proposed using the characteristics of video. Our scheme embeds different parts of a single watermark into different scenes of a video under the wavelet domain. It indicates that our scheme is robust against the attacks of frame dropping, averaging and statistical analysis and lossy compression according to experiment results. Since it allows blind retrieval of embedded watermark which does not need the original video and the watermark is perceptually invisible, our scheme has much practical value.
