Production in mould companies is a typical make-to-order and one-of-a-kind of production. The production procedure for die & mould is hard to be controlled because the customers'order is unpredictable and the manufacturing process is not stable, and thus management problems, such as delay of moulds/dies'delivery time and inferior quality of moulds/dies, frequently occurs. In order to enhance the level of management, it is necessary for enterprises to adopt information technology. The influential factors during the production procedure in die & mould enterprises are analyzed deeply in the thesis and then an improved work process is given according to the thinking of BPI and CE. Based on this, all function requirement of the system is analyzed with the UML method and the architecture of system is constructed by mixing the B/S and C/S mode. Further, the database structure is designed to manage production data in the project mode according to the features of data flow. Case-based computer aided process planning is presented. The bar-code method is applied to monitor the manufacturing process and collect the production information. Based on the defined processes and the collected information, an optimal scheduling is then used to update the production plan and predict the deliverable dates for the moulds/dies which are being fabricated, thus the users can adjust the daily or weekly production plan properly. Resorted to these key technologies, adjust and control mechanism for mould production procedure is achieved. A production management system for die & mould enterprise, eMan, is developed using MVC architecture based on J2EE. The corresponding implementation method is put forward. Further, eMan has been implemented successfully in a mould company, and the result indicates the excellent performance of eMan.
