Performance analysis and test are the crucial processes in the development of communication systems. Communication systems based on embedded platform are different from other systems in kernel architecture, task scheduling, memory management etc., so special methodology should be applied to the performance analysis and test of embedded communication systems. Starting from the features of embedded communication systems, this thesis introduces some performance indexes: system capacity, processing capacity and reliability. These indexes are discussed respectively and a method to the performance analysis and test of embedded communication systems has been presented. On system capacity / processing capacity, an abstract service model based on processing and module division is presented firstly and a normalization service computing model is established. After the parameters from the model have been defined, a measurement method for single service capacity is presented by means of extended measurement and performance plane evaluation. Next, a measurement method for compound service capacity is presented by means of linear regression and a complete evaluation course is illustrated by taking the example of media gateway in soft-switch systems. At last, principles on overload control and testability design are presented based on the research. On reliability, the engineering implication of reliability in embedded communication systems is discussed firstly. Next, a computing model for repairable communication system is presented on the ground of classical reliability model. At last, a complete course of reliability analysis and test for complex embedded communication systems is illustrated by taking the example of media gateway in soft-switch systems.
