PACS is a distributed system developed quickly with the development of digital imaging technology, computer technology, and network technology since 1980s. In PACS, the different medical imaging facilities are connected, and archived data and images are sent to workstations in time. So as to totally solve the capture, display, preservation, transfer and administration of medical images. PACS is usually comprised of image archiving server, image capturing facilities, diagnosis workstations and image-output facilities. Here, PACS based on B/S (Browser/Server) architecture is discussed, web browser is connected with server. Business logic and web logic are run in server while client workstations take only charge of display logic. Therefore, not only are the security and stability of the system improved, but also is the availability of the system improved and is PACS convenient to update.DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) standard is obeyed in the system, and JAVA is adopted as its programming language, and the system is based on J2EE platform. EJB, Servlet, JSP and other programming techniques are adopted. Some key functions are discussed in the thesis in detail, and they have great meanings to PACS. This thesis focuses on:1. PACS Cluster Service is designed and realized. The stability is improved, and the network became high-available.2. PACS Viewer based on Java Applet is developed, telemedical treatment became possible, and the available range of PACS is enlarged.3. Backup and recovery of patients' studies are realized and can be archived whenever we need. Availability and the ability of the system to resist risk is improved, and it's in favor of the communication of patient's cases. As is shown above, applying above mentioned our works to PACS, the stability and safety is improved, the available range of the system is enlarged.
