PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System) is a combiner of digital image technology ,computer technology ,and network communication technology. It builds a interactive platform of multi-type picture devices basing on every physical communication platform, manages centralizely all kinds of picture data, and provides the uniform operating interface to users. Recently, PACS and HIS have become two new supporting systems gradually in new digital hospitals. The former manages the picture materials about patients'diagnoses, and the latter manages texture materials about the patients' personal aspects. However, most PACS can only manage the texture data nowadays, and it is weak in the some complicate further processing of the picture more or less.This thesis discusses the realization of the picture processing function of later phase in the process of PACS development. Basing on traditional digital image processing and according to the characters of medical images, we design the Mark Boff Chain edge detection algorithm basing on the distributing model of image grade scene, and has got good effect in the practical experiments; as to the system development, we design customizable DICOM standard analyzer, and use the trigger mechanism Callback to improve the analysis speed ,and adopt the system structure basing on the standard interface to reduce the modules' coupling degree, and strengthen the stability of the system. The main research content includes several aspects as following:First, the research background, current situation, application fields and the new ways of development about PACS were introduced. And also the necessity and importance of research on processing the medical images were presented.In the second part of this thesis, the design plan about realization of PACS project was simply described, including the network TOP structure of PACS, data structure of DICOM format and the architecture of the software system basing on standard interface. The research content and critical parts of digital images processing, and relative application fields and function about the PACS were also discussed. After analyzing the characters of the Stat. Diagram of image grades' scene, a suppose about the Gamma mixed distributed model of image grades' scene was put forward and the equation to Gamma mixed distributing model from EM algorithm was also deduced.
