Administration Of Shanghai Public Archives

Archives and archives administration is a social appearance of deep significance. As ture records of human activity, archives is the major form of national culture legacy and the important social information resources. The value of archives is not only keep the history, but also provide the accessing for the public. However, it is ignored under the traditional system. Accompanied by improving of the economic system in our country, the public service of the modern Archives is being concerned.The first national public archives in the world was born after the French Revolution. From then on, national public archives were being founded in many countries, as one part of the national public culture. The archives work of the People' s Republic of China is on the way to open. How to reflect the service function is now about the development of archives work. This paper will analyse the problems during the development of Shanghai Municipal Archives, based upon what happened at present. Furthermore, the paper try to look for some methods and lead knowledge management (KM) into archives management, including the utilization of KM. Face to the challenge in eletronic times, role of the archival profession must change to knowledge provider sooner or later.
