Although 3G is coming soon, GSM still plays such an important role as thegreatest mobile communication system in the world. Faced up with strongcompetition, the operators are concerned with GSM network optimizationtechniques, which can lead to efficient configuration of network resources, improvethe quality of service and enhance the core completion capability.The development of mobile network brings about more and more issues onnetwork optimization, and makes it more and more complex. The complexity ofswitch traffic statistic system has some negative impacts on measuring the qualityof network quickly. Therefore, the platform which can transforms the original filesof the output of switch into the indexes of QoS is the trend for networkoptimization. Such platform can facilitate trouble shouting of network failure anddecrease the complexity of work.In this dissertation, we examine the Mapinfo-based DT software MCOMdeveloped by Erricssion, the Erricssion's traffic statistic system and DT softwareTEMS Investigation, and propose the concept and implementation of trafficstatistic analysis system.This dissertation is composed of five sections. In the first section, weintroduce the development of mobile communication and GSM, and emphasis theimportance of GSM network optimization. The trend of future networkoptimization techniques is discussed and the concept of traffic statistic system isproposed.In Section 2, the Erricssion's traffic statistic system for GSM is introduced andits disadvantages are analyzed. Then the methods of traffic statistic analysis aresummarized. Traffic statistics analysis plays an important role in networkoptimization. By analysis of traffic data, the quality of network can be examined,and enables trouble-shooting of network failures. In this section, we focus onErricssion's device and focused on some important indexes, such as: dropped callrate, establishment success rate, handover success rate, etc. The experiences ofanalysis these indexes are summarized.In Section 3, the Erricssion's DT solution TEMS Investigation is introduced.The methods of detecting network problems by DT system are summarized.Detailed discussion of the functions of TEMS Investigation is presented, and themajor signaling decoding of layered messages are introduced. We also study theserial communication protocol for GPS in detail. TEMS Investigation is themarket-leading air interface test solution, and is used in diagnose, analysis,optimization and maintenance of mobile networks. Its functions include datacollection, real-time analysis and post-processing, providing an integrated solutionfor network optimization of operators. Due to its strong capability, the operatorscan reduce cost and time for trainings.TEMS Investigation supports GSM,GPRS,EDGE and WCDMA.. It is thebest alternative of new network deployment and integrated with existed networkseamlessly. By TEMS Investigation, the operators can enhance voice quality,network usage rate, call success rate and quality of service. These features makeTEMS Investigation an indispensable tool in network operation. The functionsprovided by TEMS Investigation includes: debugging and optimizingWCDMA ,GSM/GPRS and Edge network, tracking network failures andtrouble-shooting, verifying real behavior of terminals by test data, verifying thecoverage, capacity and usage status of network, etc.In Section 4, we analyze the Mapinfo-based software MCOM, which isdeveloped by Erricssion. With the enhancement of CAD, Mapinfo Professional isused in many fields including telecommunication. In mobile communication,Mapinfo Professional can combine digital map with base station information anddisplay the location of base stations, which makes it become an indispensable toolfor network planning and optimization. However, with the fast development ofmobile communication, the application of Mapinfo Professional is limited by itsfunctions. Erricssion develops MCOM based on Mapinfo professional, and is veryhelpful to network optimization. MCOM can display the location, frequency andadjacency of base stations. It can also display the cells with the same frequency oradjacent frequencies. The transformed TEMS DT files can be replayed.In Section 5, the structure and functions of traffic statistic system arepresented. The implementation of the system is described. Finally, the applicationof the system and future work are mentioned.The traffic statistic system derives from on the two problems:1. There are many manufactures of Liao Ning mobile's network devices,including Nortel, Erricssion, Motorola, Alcatel, Nokia, Huawei, etc. The namesof COUNTER used by different manufactures are not equal, which makescomplexity to the network optimization. Therefore, a universal traffic statisticplatform is needed.2. According to the requirements of CMCC, the network optimization engineershave to deliver many reporting on network operating performance andconfigurations. Automatic reporting generation function of the traffic analysissystem can relieve the burdens of engineers, so they can have more timefocusing on network optimization.The traffic statistic analysis system is composed of the following modes: singlepoint analysis, history analysis, SMS analysis, GPRS performance data, applicationissues, reporting system, simulation terminal, BSC migration, historical warning,topography, performance evaluations. |
