The Design And Implement Of Video Compression System Based On DM642

This paper introduces a general design solution of a video encoding system based on DM642, including the specific hardware and software design using Reference Framework Level 5 (RF5). After analyzing throughly the MPEG-4 codec algorithm and the architecture of DM642, we optimize the implementation of real time MPEG-4 Simple Profile encoder for high performance of the system work. The system can be used for video surveillance, video conference and IP-based videophones, etc.This paper is divided into six parts. Chapter 1 summarizes the development history of the video coding standard and DSP technology. Chapter 2 introduces the principles and fundaments of video coding technology, particularly describes the features of MPEG-4 in detail. Chapter 3 explains the hardware architecture, especially those related to viedo processing and software optimization. Chapter 4 introduces the software design of the video encoding system. Chapter 5 implements a real time MPEG-4 Simple Profile encoder and also discusses the key optimizatoin technology. Chapter 6 concludes the paper by providing some final remarks, observation, and future research directions.
