H.264/AVC is newest video coding standard of the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group. H.264 can save approximately a 50% bit rate for equivalent perceptual quality relative to the existing standards. Due to the advanced compression performance and the "network-friendly" nature, H.264 will be adopted over a broad variety of applications such as video telephone, broadcast, streaming services, storage and so on.Compare with prior standards, H.264 adopts a lot of advanced techniques, which can efficiently improve video compression performance. But unfortunately these techniques also will increase computational complexity considerably. Therefore, reducing computational complexity and improving code rate became very important for real-time vide encoder design. This paper focus on H.264 video encoder implementation and optimization based on DM642 DSP .The paper includes three pars: in the first part, main modules of H.264 standard are introduced. In the second part, two fast algorithm (simplified EPZS and skipped MB detect) is proposed for inter coding. Simulation results show that these algorithms can improve code rate efficiently. The last part, we introduce how to optimization program based on C language, linear assembly and memory allocation.
