With the developing of computer technology, 3D technology has become increasingly mature, and it is used in many areas. 3D modeling technology has great significance in the medical field. In this paper, a theoretical study of the medical organ modeling two common methods: surface rendering, volume rendering has carried out, and put the two methods into practice, then apply the model to medical and surgical simulation systems.(1) Analysis of the medical image standard DICOM then accomplished the medical image reading and visualization by two methods.(2) Explained two open source medical image processing packages: ITK and VTK in detail.(3) Researched the four common volume rendering methods,focused on the theory of Ray casting method, then achieved a soft tissue organ through Ray casting method combined gray threshold segmentation in practice.(4) Researched the surface rendering, and achieved a soft tissue organ through surface rendering combined gray threshold segmentation in practice.(5) Trim the model which is generated by surface rendering. After a series of model processing, a Kidney model that can be used in the operation platform has been achieved.
