Distributed simulation systems are widely used in combat simulation, equipmentdevelopment, education, training, and so on, and have become an indispensabletechnical support in the field of national defense and military. With the development ofthe application requirements, the simulation object become increasingly complex, andthe simulation system tends to be a combination of the multi-domain multi-subjectheterogeneous systems. In order to achieve the goals such as rapid development, lowercost and resources in the deployment of complex distributed simulation system, theinteroperability of this kind of system must be improved. Also current research onsimulation system interoperability has achieved rich results, but from the desired “plugand play” there is still a big gap due to the limitations of technology and inconsistencyof concept. To meet the need of rapid development of complex heterogeneousdistributed simulation system, this paper paid attention to the system interoperabilitycharacteristics and measurement methods, and presented a new development pattern. The main contents of the thesis include:1The interoperability of simulation systems is decided by some characteristics ofthe system. Through the analysis of factors in problem domain, system domain andplatform domain, we summarized the interoperability characteristics of the simulationsystem. Some of interoperability problem is caused by the lacking of clear informationabout those characteristics. To solve this problem, we established the simulation systeminteroperability characteristics model (SSICM), as a standardized description form.2The characteristics of simulation system can be divided into conceptual featuresand technical features, and there is a big difference between the two types ofcharacteristics on the nature and the influence on interoperability. Based on themeasurement of conceptual interoperability and technical interoperability, we canmeasure the system interoperability exactly. The measurement of conceptualinteroperability is based on the assertion, and technical interoperability is based on thesimilarity of the characteristics.3Combined with the technology trends of the system development, we put forwarda complex distributed simulation system development process (CDSSDP), whichanalyze and design systems from the angle of interoperability. Based on some researchon development process, generic system structure and product specification, wedeveloped the simulation interface packet (SPI), and preliminarily implemented thesimulation support environment based on HLA/RTI.4In the development of the UAV simulation system, we solved manyinteroperability problems by applying the CDSSDP and establishing SSICM. The casetested the validity of the theory and methods in the paper.
