The WMAN is another broadband technology after the WLAN. The coming out of WMAN is for the increasing market demand in BWA. The system design of WLAN and it's characteristic can't apply to the outdoor BWA very well, because of the limitation in bandwidth and user numbers as well as other problems like communication distance when it is applied to the outdoors. So the IEEE established a new and more complicated global standard--IEEE802.16.This standard can not only solve the problems both with the Physical layer conditions and QoS, but also fulfill the demand of BWA and the "last mile "access. The WiMax is the air interface standard of IEEE802.16 WMAN. This WMAN has much similarity with the traditional moving networks. It has settled base stations and transfers the service in scores of kilometers in point-multipoint mode according to the frequency, transferring power and sensitivity of receivers. This paper discuss the realization of IEEE802.16 WMAN, introduce it's development , the protocol stack model , technical parameters and the application fields of different standards. The thesis explains the PHY andMAC particularly and prospects the application in the future. This paper stress on the key technology in PHY including the wireless working specialty > duplex modes carriers bandwidth > modulation ways and OFDM/OFDM A technology, especially the RF distortion in IEEE802.16 WMAN, and put forward the methods to solve the different kinds of distortion. Based on the design of a WiMax user station this paper discusses the design difficulty of RF circuit. Actually, RF is becoming more and more complex, so the solving methods must be flexible enough to fulfill the different RF frequency and global rules. Some main RF systems had been discussed widely, but the discussion of RF systems in WMAN is under way, especially the IF and I/Q base band architectures and TDD/FDD modes. The paper discuss the RF module including the synthesizers power amplifiers and filters. At last the paper emulated the different modes by ADS in order to testify the possibility of their application in the IEEE802.16 systems.CHEN Lei (Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System)Supervised by QIU Runhe...
