AWirelesssensornetworks(WSNs)combinesmicroelectromechanicalsystems(MEMS)technology,newsensormaterials,low-powersignalprocessing,computation,andlow-costwirelessnetworkinginacompactsystem.Itprovidesdistributednetworkaccesstosensors,actuators,andprocessorsembeddedinavarietyofequipment,facilities,andtheenvironment.AWSNestablishesaselforganizingsensornetworkwhendispersedintoanenvironmentandrepresentsanewmonitoringandcontrolcapabilityforavarietyofapplications.However, the security issues in wireless sensor networks have been a cirticalproblem, and security concerns constitute a potential stumbling block to the impendingwidedeployment ofsensornetworks. But thereis littleworkabout thesecerityproblems, since the authors discuss these issues and consider mechanisms to achieve securecommunicationinthesenetworks.Themainworkwedohereisasfollows:1. Introduce briefly the wireless sensor networks, and analyse the development aboutitssecurity.2. After analyzing the popular mechanis,of the WSN, we indicate its merits andflaws,andpointoutitsbadaffectontheperformanceoftheentirenetworks.3. We quantify the energy cost of authentication based on public key cryptography onan 8 bit microcontroller plat form, then put forward that we can advance the WAPIprotocol which based on the ECC and use it in the WSNs,and generally refer sometypicalapplications.4.
