Digital Audio Broadcast system (DAB) is the third wireless radio system after Amplitude Modulation broadcast (AM) and Frequency Modulation broadcast (FM). Because of the advanced digital signal process technology, DAB system have good quality of sound, high frequency availability and more additional service, and is widely used in many countrys. DAB system is tested in China so far.Firstly, the key technology of DAB system and wireless channel is discussed in this paper. Directed at the problem of DAB, the solution of channel coding is putted forward. Thread DAB system model simulation, the Serial Concatenated Coding (SCC) is determined as the improvement DAB channel coding.Secondly, two subcode of SCC—RS code and convolution code is discussed and the simple algorithm is selected for the design of encoder and decoder. Optimized the circuit structure that based on low data transfer rate and real-time. The circuit is described by Verilog Hardware Description Language, simulated in Modelsim and synthesized by Leonardo Spectrum in QuartusII. The paper shows the simulation result of some module.Finally, the encoder and decoder circuits are verified in APEX 20KE FPGA, tested in test flatform composed with PC and development broad, and then get the performance index of the circuit. The result shows that the new channel coder is better than traditional one in system compatibility and error rate. It can meet the requirement of DAB system.
