With the rapid development of information technology and the application of network, growing storage of data and transmission is required. The combination of the storage and network gives birth to the network storage. Storage Area Network, as the major architecture of network storage, meets the requirement of data storage, data share, and remote data recovery, etc. Fibre Channel is a high-performance transmission protocol, which has characteristics of high-speed and long-distance transmission. Fibre Channel is the major technology, which builds up Storage Area Network. It has good outlook at high speed transmission system. In Fibre Channel, fabric topology has more connectable devices than point-to-point and arbitrated loop topology. It is more opening, flexible and scalable. No blocking switch fabric can supply most network throughput. Fibre Channel switch is the key device and nuclear part in fabric topology. In this dissertation, we first introduce the developing background, improvements and protocol of Fibre Channel, and the architecture and logic makeup of Fibre Channel switch are analyzed, which is a 8×8 switch, and each port's high speed serial data rate is 1.0625Gbps. Then, we probe into the building of the physical platform of line card. It involves the device characteristics, circuit design and relevant configuration of physical layer chip, FPGA, FPGA's configuration device and serial backplane transceiver. We study the design and implementation of MAC on Fibre Channel switch, which is based on FPGA supplied by line card physical platform. Functions, devices of design and implementation of the modules in the MAC are studied. We verify some key modules, connect all modules and achieve the results of timing simulation. Finally, We debug and analyze the circuit of Fibre Channel switch line card,and present the further scheme about the project.
