As people's requirement to the information grows rapidly, people store more and more files and data on to the internet to share their data with others. And the development of the network application brings more requirement to the storage too. The combination of the storage and network gives birth to the Storage Network. And as a part of the Storage Network, Storage Area Network (SAN) is widely used in many fields.Fibre Channel (FC) is a new technology to build the SAN, it is mainly used in interconnecting work stations, servers and storage devices. Because of FC's high-speed, low-delay, long-distance connectivity and its topology structure which can cover the advantages of I/O and network, the FC becomes a good choice in building a distributed & multi-protocol local area network.In FC network, the fabric topology structure can achieve the best performance, and the FC switch is the key device in this topology. The purpose of this paper is to make that the forwarding table in the switch processes the state of the routing table entry's changes by analyzing and designing the system, so that the forwarding table can be updated rapidly to guide the packet forwarding accurately in SAN.In the paper, we give out the FC's developing background, improvements and protocol first. After that, we proposed a concept of Virtual SAN, and FC switch development is based on that. We introduce the structure of the Fibre Channel protocol, and more, we analyze the FC switch's protocol and functions. In this project, my job is to analyze functional requirements of the Routing Flash module and Forwarding Table Maintaining module, to discuss their design and implementation. The implementation process involves the development of packaging messages and sending messages to an external module and responding and handling external events. And in this paper, we give out some experiences in the development including the use of inter-task communication and event response mechanism, message format designing techniques, which has greatly enhanced the efficiency of the routing change's notification. At last, the results of the experiments and our further developing schemes are presented.
