Production planning management is the core of enterprise management. The main function of enterprise management is planning, then production. Without planning, production can not be carried out smoothly, and the results can not be controlled very well. Therefore, how to work out scientific production planning is very important.The paper is summarized from an international cooperative project. Considering the producing and market characteristics of automotive parts industry, a production planning system solution of automotive parts industry based on Material Requirement Planning and Group Technology is proposed, which aims at meeting the needs of customers in time and reducing overstock. Production planning system is designed and developed, and the management of whole operation line from selling, planning, producing to inventory is implemented. This solution makes use of MRP and GT synthetically. Firstly products are divided into groups according to the kind comparability of materials, which are used in producing, then the structures of products are decomposed into levels based on MRP, and the production planning of different products in one group is computed together.In this paper, the supply chain structure of automotive parts industry is summarized, the theories of MRP and GT are introduced. Based on this result, the functions and implements of customer management, building of product structure information, inventory management and purchasing management are described in detail. The detailed implementations of the production planning and purchasing planning are described, which generated through making use of orders data, product structure information, the working calendar and the inventory information. Meanwhile, the instance analysis is given too. When introducing the method of making production planning, the algorithm is given. At the end of this paper, an estimation model of suppliers is presented, which plays an important role during selecting suppliers. This system has been put into practice.
