The TI's C6000 DSPs have excellent digital signal processing speed and outstanding external interfacing ability. As one member of this series, TMS320C6173 not only owns the features mentioned above, but also has special integrated multichannel audio serial ports (McASP). McASP can easily receive and send multichannel signals and support a variety of audio data format, thus simplifies the structure of audio processing system markedly. Combined with CPU high-speed processing ability, TMS320C6713 DSPs have potential worth in audio application, even in the whole multimedia field. Based on the background above, we come up with the study project: Setting up an audio system on TMS320C6713 platform with McASP. We choose MPEG1-layer3 (MP3) encoding standard as the algorithm of this system. MP3 standard can compress the rate of audio stream from 1.4Mbit/s to 128Kbit/s and still maintains CD level timbre. For implementing the MP3 encoding operation, a mass of computation is needed, thus this algorithm can clearly reflect the real-time processing ability of the system. Firstly, the thesis briefly introduces the structural features of TMS320C6713 and emphasizes the McASP. Then discusses the composing and functions of the multicannel real-time audio system. Finally, gives an introduction on MP3 encoding algorithm and makes the conclusion and analysis on function and potentiality of the system.
