With the development of society and economy, pipeline transmission has become an important transport method for the world economic growth. Pipeline leak accidents happen frequently due to aging effect of the pipeline, corrosion and other natural or man-made reasons. This not only caused huge economic losses, but also leads to severe damage to the ecological environment, threatening the lives of people. Therefore, establishing a pipeline leak monitoring system poses important practical significance.Under the background of oil pipeline leak detection, considering the system consumption and real-time quality, this paper designed a pipeline leak detection system on the basis of wireless sensor network technology. It has low power consumption, and can accomplish the practical function of real-time monitoring and alarming.This paper gives wireless sensor networks an analysis of its advantages, architecture, node design requirements and application background, and discusses its main function and technical specifications; it completed the overall structure design of the leak monitoring system. The realization of the various components is described.Then this paper described the hardware and software design of the monitoring node, in which it choose the low power microcontroller MSP430F135 as the core, RF chip CC2430 as wireless transceiver, combined with the temperature and pressure sensors, which collect and process data from the leak point. It takes a series of energy-saving measures in this design to extend the working life of the node.The effect and power test was conducted of the designed system under operation. Test results show that the monitoring system can run in good condition, and the working life of the node has been extended efficiently. It is able to conduct real-time pipeline monitoring, accurately reflect the pipeline's working state and alarming timely.
