| In 2009, with the 3G license delivered by the Ministry of Information Industry, and the reorganization of the telecom operators, now the three operators in our country all has the licenses both of the fixed networks and the mobile networks, the age of all-service competition is coming.It seems that the most part of operators'income is still from the voice service nowadays, but the decline of the ARPU is becoming the truth. To reverse this trend, we must develop the new services such as the data service. But it pose a new challenge to the optic transmission networks in the bottom, because the two requirements of the new service: IP and broadband. The limited broadband of optic transmission networks has become the bottleneck of the development of the telecom networks, and the current technology cannot solve the problem properly.Thus, ITUT enhanced the research in OTN technology. And now, the OTN technology is gradually improved. There is some equipment be provided in commercially usage. To adapt to the network development, and take advantage in the future competition, the author decided to learn and research the OTN technology.In this essay, the author research the feature of OTN technology thoroughly, and compare it with the current technology: SDH and WDM. And find the inheritance and development of OTN base on SDH and WDM. Meanwhile, the author built an experiment network with the certain OTN equipment in the market, and made a series of comprehensive tests to verify the performance of the OTN equipment can satisfy the require of the telecom operators. At last, we discussed the strategy of large-scale deployment of OTN in the core layer of metro networks. |
