Memory is the key unit in DSP.This paper is part of a research project of 16-bit DSP(mDSP),which supports super Harvard architecture. This paper is about memory system design including ROM,DARAM,SDRAM and three memory control units. This paper includes the following:At first, this paper presents a design of control circut that makes single-port SRAM become DARAM,which provides great data throughout that satisfy the demand of super Harvard architecture. On one hand, DARAM meets the need of super Harvard architecture. On the other hand, the area and power consumption of DARAM is almost the same as single-port SRAM. It is concluded that the performance of DARAM gets greatly improved with the cost of a little area and power consumption.Secondly, this paper presents three memory control units, through which mDSP can access ROM,DARAM and SDRAM efficiently. Every memory control unit matches the feature of storage medium. This paper presents the detail about inside modules of three memory control units. In the end, simulation of DARAM is carried out. This paper presents the comparison between single-port SRAM,dual-port SRAM and DARAM in area and power consumption. The effectiveness of three memory control units is proved by simulation results and the compatibility between memory system and mDSP is verified.
