With rapid development of transportation, high-grade highways and high-speed rails'construction speed up. It is urgent to increase mechanized construction level of tunnel. Construction supporting is an important step in weak rock tunnel , one process of which is the installation of steel arch frame. At present, it mainly uses workers or auxiliary equipment, which is labor intensive and low working efficiency. To realize mechanization, fast highly effective in steel arch frame installation process, a steel arch installation trolley is eagerly needed to design and manufacture .Based on the investigation of installing steel arch frame at the scene, construction characteristics are analyzed and design requirements are put forward. Overall planning and design of the steel arch installation trolley are proposed aiming the installing method. The steel arch installation trolley is composed of an installation institutions of steel arch, platform of lifting mechanism, special overloaded chassis, hydraulic control system and electric control system etc. The installation institutions of steel arch is the working device, which is composed of slide mechanism, mechanical arm stretching mechanism , fastening device. This paper studies on working principles of mechanical arm stretching mechanism and fastening device. The design of installation mechanism affects performance of the trolley directly. In the design process, virtual prototyping technology is used. The three-dimensional model is built in Catia. It is imported to Adams to carry on the kinematics and dynamics simulation analysis. Working range , motion characteristics, stress and drive of components are got. Then hydraulic system is designed by analyzing working process and characteristics in action. Finally a test platform is set up, which verifies the hydraulic leveling system.
