This thesis designs a kind of embedded multimedia storage system based on H.264 compression coding technology to store and manage the audio and video data.Starting with the works on recent situations at home and abroad as well as system functional requirements, this paper analyses the features of H.264 technology and its key technologies, introduces the structures of embedded system, studies the main traits of IDE and SATA hard disk interface, and anatomizes the organizing structures of FAT32 file system. It lays a theoretical foundation for the development of embedded multimedia storage system based on H.264.Then, this essay projects an overall plan for the embedded multimedia acquisition and storage system based on H.264. GM8180, which is a 32-bit RISC processor based on the ARM9 core , is adapted to work as the chip of chief processing unit for embedded saving system. And it also designs the circuit for key relative hardware of embedded multimedia storage system, which includes the designs on interface of IDE hard disk and SATA hard disk.After that, aimed at the circuit of the hardware, the realization of the hard disk interface drivers of embedded multimedia storage system are introduced and analyzed, which includes the realization of driver on IDE interface and SiI3114 chip.Finally, according to the need of actual running of embedded storage system, it devises the managing function of files storage for upper layer system. That is to say, under the support of bottom layer encapsulation, the file system can be established in the storage device. It can design and carry out the storage management strategy to achieve convenient and effective data management.
