A Automatic Protection System For Optical Fibers

With the rapid development of the fiber-optic communications, the complexity of the fiber-optic networks and the application amount of optic fibers are both rapidly increasing. Meanwhile, the work of management and maintenance for optic fibers becomes much heavier. Carrying large amounts of information, optic fibers are of vital importance to the society and the economy. There will be a huge loss of data as well as money if optic fibers break down. Therefore, how to improve the survivability and reliability of optic fibers comes to a hot topic.In this paper, a type of automatic monitoring and protection system for optic fibers, which based on ARM-Linux technology, is put forward. Sampling data by the ARM-Linux platform,it provides real-time, on-line power monitoring of optic fibers. It can judge malfunction intelligently and control the optical switch to change between the working fiber and the protection fiber, and then inform the monitor-station through net. Firstly the theory and structure of the system are discussed. Then the optic part, embedded hardware and Linux software are introduced. The system have functions of data sampling, flitting, analyzing and disposing. Finally, two schemes are proposed to enrich the function.
